It depends what you're sending but more importantly where you're re-using it. Simple text-based filter settings (default values in text filters, other filter settings that are specified using text) can be obtained from the provider web part by using {$FieldName$} placeholder syntax. This is so far the main use-case that's supported, hope it helps you.
