FilterZen: Feedback Forum > Edit in datasheet

Hello,

Do you know if there's a workaround for allowing users the ability to go into Datasheet view? I have added the filterZen on a page that has my document library and it works perfect but whenever users try to access the Datasheet view they get a webpart error that it's no longer connected and they aren't able to view the documents anymore.

Kind regards,
Moe

Will be fixed tomorrow. Datasheet view doesn't support filters-via-connections but we'll make sure FilterZen won't break it at least. When this update becomes available, I'll let you know!

Hi Moe,

just fixed that issue, as much as was possible. Here's how you can resolve that with the newest build:

Initially, when you go to a List View connected to FilterZen and choose Edit in Datasheet View from the Actions toolbar menu, then the Datasheet page will show the well-known error message ("Web Part Error: There is no valid configuration for these connected parts to run in.") and FilterZen will display its own warning:

"Datasheet views don't support Web Part Connections and instead of ignoring them, unfortunately they just fail to display, as seen below. If you add a dedicated (public) Datasheet View to this List, then FilterZen will automatically redirect your users to its View page instead of displaying this error message."

Once you click the link in that message (on your SharePoint List View page, not here in the forum of course), then you'll be redirected to the out-of-box View creation wizard, already pre-initialized to create a Datasheet View. So basically enter a name, check the Columns, sort order, paging and pre-filtering as required, and click OK to create that View. The next time users select Edit in Datasheet View, FilterZen will redirect them to your new Datasheet View.

You'll never see any of this if your List already has its own Datasheet View already, in that case, FilterZen will just redirect to it immediately.

That's about the only way we could figure out to -- well not fix this, but guide end-users gracefully around that issue.

Thank You very much. Works great!

Update: This behavior has caused confusion with a few user and is now an opt-in configuration option (How to deal with 'Edit in Datasheet') rather than a silent default. The new config setting also lets you fully disable the 'Edit in Datasheet' option for filter-connected List Views if preferred.
