Hi Steve, this is a rare issue but I believe following these steps closely should get you a successfull -- either wizard-based or manual -- install.

I was able to find another user to install the software since my account was not in the farm admin group (and his is). The pre-check of the install is fine. However, during install, they get an error (screen shot is the link below, since I can embeed a photo in this reply). How can I resole this error? Thank you.

Hi Steve, I'd suggest you follow the manual STSADM-based installation if you're one of the unlucky 0.001% of users that keeps running into security errors!
It's not really significantly more complex, just a string of manual steps outlined in detail in the above-linked article.

During the installation, the 2nd screen is a systems check.
My installer stops at "SharePoint was unable to connect to the database server"
I don't know how that's possible. My SharePoint works fine and it connects to my database server fine. My SharePoint has been in production almost a year now and filled with data. How can my SP be unable to connect to my database server? Or is it that this application can't connect to my database?
As it now, I'm unable to install the software. What should I do to resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance.
